A New York Icon Moves Next Door: MOSCOT Expands on Beak Street

Soho has a new address for one of its most beloved eyewear institutions - though you won't have to walk far to find it. MOSCOT, the New York City heritage eyewear brand that has called Beak Street home for the past decade, has relocated from number 37 to number 39 - moving next door into a larger, expanded space that feels very much like a natural evolution of a love affair with the neighbourhood.

The new shop spans 70 square metres, complete with a dedicated 12 square metre testing facility, and carries all the hallmarks that MOSCOT devotees will recognise instantly - tin ceilings, vintage tchotchkes, and the kind of family history you can actually feel. Five generations of it, to be precise.

Founded in 1915, the brand traces its roots back to Great Great Grandfather Hyman Moscot, who arrived from Eastern Europe via Ellis Island in 1899 and began selling eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street in Manhattan's Lower East Side. More than a century on, MOSCOT is now led by Dr. Harvey Moscot and his son Zack Moscot, 5th Generation and Chief Design Officer - and the family spirit remains very much intact.

"Reaching ten years on Beak Street is a proud milestone for our family and for MOSCOT," says Dr. Harvey Moscot. "Soho welcomed us from the start, and this move allows us to continue serving our customers with the same care - just with a little more room to do it."

It is not hard to see why Beak Street, just off Carnaby Street, felt like the right fit from the beginning. The neighbourhood's long history in fashion, music, and the arts mirrors the downtown New York sensibility that MOSCOT has always embodied. As Zack Moscot puts it: "From day one, Beak Street felt like home. Ten years on, that connection has only grown stronger."

Since arriving in Soho, MOSCOT has expanded further across London with shops in Covent Garden, Marylebone, and King's Road, and continues to grow globally with recent openings in Florence, Melbourne, and Guangzhou. But Beak Street, it seems, remains the heart of it all.
